Walking and shopping

Over the weekend we walked and Shopped. Not always in that order but close.  It is a good six blocks to the grocery store so food shopping requires a two wheeled pull cart and a few heavy duty bags. Or I can have the nice young men at Wong push the cart to my house.
Here in Peru they have hyper pasterized milk, it still on the shelf waiting for you to buy it, take it home and store it until needed in the Pantry. Comes in handy most of the time.
Spanish lessons have started and I am strugling already to not feel like an idiot. Hubby tells me that is normal but I am not found of the feeling. I will give it a few months to see if  One, I get along with my teacher, and two if I find myself learning much.

Not a Challenge but a god awful Chore

I know that lots of people enjoy a new challenge. Gets thier blood pumping and really enhances their lives.  I not really a new challenge type of person. I like a new quilt pattern, that is about it!  This whole moving internationally is Hard!  I struggle to learn new languages, I mean really struggle! So I'm dependant on others to get things Done. One of the things I have always been proud of is my ablility to run my household, when I am in a non English speaking country I just can't run my household without Major help.  That make me feel like I have failed at my job.
It takes me months if not long to adapt, during that time I am grouchy and can be rather unpleasant to be around. For now, this blog will be about how I try to manage.
Today was and continues to be a bad day. I am homesick for Maysville and my friends, my house, my lovely car. I want to go shopping at a Store where I understand how things work. I just want Home.
Laters!

Month One

We arrived one month ago, things are plodding along! Have gotten some important things done, Carnet applied for, phone service established, and the dog has gotten a hair cut.
Things have also not gotten done, such as no Spanish lessons as of yet and still haven't decided on a car for me or not.
I am a housewife, I like being in control of my house. I don'thave that here and it weights on my mind. To achieve control will take years and that makes me sad.
A funny thing, as I sit here typing I can hear the hoards of workers using weed eaters to mow the grass in the Park, this soo reminds me of Slovakia.. Not so sure the comparison is a good one.

Trailing Spouse and Adapters

Trailing Spouse, a term I had forgotten about.  is the spouse that follows the other spouse to a new location for a new job. They go to work and you are left to figure out your new life.  Been there done that but it isn't what I like to do  at all. It is painful and lonely experience, until you meet people.  Have reached out to another spouse from hubbies work place. She was nice but was  told to make friends closer to where I lived,  she lived too far away.. Sigh.  Reached out to the American Ladies group, they don't meet till March. I'll keep trying and with knowledge from past moves, I know it just takes time.
This entire apartment has American style plugins! Probem being that almost nothing here has that type of plug, they all have South American plugs. There for everything needs adapters! ARGH just wanted to play with my sewing machine!

Embassy and Post its

Yesterday was visit the Embassy day, once I had the right paper that needed signed it was easy. I am very glad that the Hubby's office was just across the street, made changing said paper much easier. I also had an Insurance intruction meeting. Fairly stright forward business, ie been there, done this before.

Had lunch with a Canadian family that is still here, summer vacation time is now. Was good to get information and just speak English.

Hubby is off to the mine site for his 8 day rotation, really need to remember to tell him that reminding us he is going to be gone half the time isn't a good thing.

Today Girlie and I went to Starbucks for lunch and then found the craft store which was closed for inventory.. On the plus side I did get some post its.

The pets are settling in more, Bob is growling at things and the cats are acting more like cats instead of just things that hide under the covers.

Girlie is wondering WHY we are here now since it is summer and there is no one else here!! It is a good question.

Finger Printing Day

Exciting Day

Got finger printed twice! Once for Peru and once for the FBI.  Joys. This included getting up at 4:30 am to go to work with hubby and sit in his office for HOURS until it was time to go be finger printed and have my teeth looked at..
Still haven't come to terms totally with being here. Hubby is gone 90% of the time and soon as school starts girl will be gone most of the day. Leave me with far too much time.
Plus side is most days I do get to see hubby for a few hours vs only a few days every 6 weeks. To be honest I have gotten used to my own schedule and this feels like a lot of adjusting to work through.
Guess time will tell..
